History is not the story of the past

History is not the story of the past; it is the study of the future. 100 years ago, this month, the United States government began arresting and deporting ‘alien undesirables.’ (Sound familiar?)  Without trials, 249 were shipped off to Russia on the USAT Buford in November of 1919. Among those deported were Emma Goldman and Alexander Berkman whose ‘crime’ was opposition to America’s entry into World War I.  But they shipped off to Russia AFTER World War was over. Nothing has changed. Anti-immigrant hysteria is b-a-c-k and deportations are the order of the day. Read you history because everything that WAS will be coming back.
