“If we don’t all pull together nothing will get done.”

pullThis is as Alaskan as you can get.  What you are seeing is a line of everyone in the village working together to pull a whale ashore.  Everyone is participating and everyone will get a share of the whale. This is the spirit of cooperation we need in our assemblies, state legislatures and in Washington D. C.  No one in this photo is going to eat unless the whale is dragged ashore. And no one in any assembly, state legislature or in Washington D.C. is going to get what they want without working together – with everyone in the community.

Steve Levi is an Alaskan writer who specializes in the Alaska Gold Rush (nonfiction) and the ‘impossible crime,’ (fiction.)  An ‘impossible crime’ is one where the detective must figure out HOW the crime was committed before going after the perpetrators – like a Greyhound bus with bank robbers and hostages disappearing off the Golden Gate Bridge –THE MATTER OF THE VANISHING GREYHOUND.
