“Count your blessings; we are not like everyone else.”

blog29One of the constants in America is discrimination against some ethnic, religious or cultural group. At one time or another Americans – the only term to use to describe all of us throughout our history – have actively discriminated against the Dutch, French, Germans, Italians, Jews, Indians, blacks, Irish, Japanese, Chinese, gays, lesbians, disabled, Baptists, Quakers, Unitarians and now it’s the turn of the Muslims. Discrimination is as American as apple pie.  But there is a big difference between us and the rest of the world: we “get over it” and “move on.” In the Mideast, two Muslim sects have been actively killing each other since the death of Mohammed in 632 of the Christian Era. Hundreds of thousands of so-called Christians slaughtered each other during the Reformation and six million Jews were exterminated during the Second World War. Feel depressed?  Don’t be.  This picture is a postcard from 1939. Seventy years later there was black man in the White House – and there was no violent revolution to make it happen.
