“What’s so dangerous about a couple of guys hanging out?”

If there is any one photograph from Alaska that should send shivers down the spine of every American, this is it. For most Americans, Alaska is that state ‘up there in the north’ which is frozen most of the year. What they fail to understand is Alaska provides trillions of dollars of natural resources which keep the prices of what they buy low.

But Alaska is within military striking distance of Russia and Alaska does not have enough combat troops to stop an invasion. Three years ago, an invasion of Alaska by Russia was a fantasy. After the invasion of Ukraine, no one is sure what the Russians will do next.

This photograph?

It’s two Russian pilots in Fairbanks during the Second World War.  They are waiting to get their American-made bombers available – for free – from Lendlease.  The Russians have been here before and Russian aircraft are constantly invading American airspace off Alaska’s coastline.

Again, after the invasion of Ukraine, no one is sure what the Russians will do next.
