Unless you live in Alaska

Unless you live in Alaska, this photograph will have no meaning at all.  To those of you in the Lower 48, the Bering Sea – which lies north of the Aleutian Islands – is frozen 10 to 15 feet thick from the middle of September to early June. This means all cargo barges for the Alaskan Interior have to be in-and-out by September.  1/3 of Alaskans are not connected to the Lower 48 by roads is called “Bush Alaska” and everything coming in after about September 15th has to come by plane.  And it is VERY expensive. So, if you live in the Lower 48, next time you start whining about how high prices are, be happy you don’t live in Fort Yukon, Napaskiak, Utqiagvik, Kotzebue, Teller, Nome, St. Mary’s, Rampart, McGrath, White Mountain, Mekoryuk . . . . .https://amzn.to/2PQ7JSX; https://youtu.be/xge4pK-MiMQ
