It was said that the Roman Emperor Caligula

once declared war on Neptune, the God of the Sea.

How did he fight the God of the Sea?

He marched his army to the seacoast

and had them stab the ocean waves!

Did it work?

We don’t know. 

But he ordered his army to gather seashells

as proof of his victorious assault on Neptune.
