In 1749, the Duke of Portland and the Earl of Chesterfield made a bet to see how stupid people could be.

They distributed this promotional which advertised a show where a man would squeeze himself into an empty bottle.

So, on January 14, 1749, the Haymarket Theater was packed.

And when no man showed up to s-q-u-e-e-z-e into a bottle, the crowd rioted and gutted the theater.
