“Wait a MINUTE! That’s no LADY!!”

That’s what a patron of P.T. Barnum’s American Museum claimed.

And he took Barnum to court.

The trial was a spectacle with the woman’s husband appearing to swear the bearded lady was his wife.

The trial was a sensation.

Thousands flocked to the Museum to see the Bearded Lady.

Later it was discovered Barnum had paid the man to take him, Barnum, to court.

It was all a public relations gimmick to drum up business for the Museum.
